Full BN20 refurb conversion from a KYCMM to KCYMW (basically 5th slot magenta to white).
Client wanted to do white. They were warned white can be problematic and needs to be printed EVERYDAY or it will clog fast. Plus you need to shake the cartridge everyday.
Roland states "Remove the white ink cartridge, shake it 50 times (about 20 seconds) with a stroke length of around 5 cm (2 in.) from each end". This is due to the make up of white which contains titanium.
Replaced the 5th cartridge tubing (was magenta) and pump in order to be able to use white with no contamination or issues.
Fuse was blown. One of the head cable connectors was damaged and needed to be replaced.
Replaced and installed new print head, dampers, captop, wiper, and felt. Head would not print still.
Checked the power transistors and one was bad. Replaced transistor. Head was now fully functional.
Proceeded with full ink up and calibration.
Front of BN20 mainboard.
You can see the smd fuse in the upper right corner. This blows when there is a problem with the head or possibly with a bad transistor.
Back of BN20 mainboard.
Here you can see the 4 Power Transistors for the head. The one on the left was giving improper readings when testing with multimeter. Transistor was replaced and head started firing and stopped blowing fuses.
